Lawyer, finally!

AFTER ALL the crazy knee-bending and intense prayer moments I finally became a Full-fledged member of the Philippine Bar at 24.

I spent my 24th year struggling my way through the Bar Examinations and seeing it through until I reached my first goal. I’ve always said that my end goal is actually to be the best mother in the world. I’ve always seen myself as someone who’d rather wipe butts and change diapers than conquer corporate worlds. And now that I am one dream closer to that life of endless giggles and ice cream dates, I praise my God for all that He has blessed me with.

My journey to lawyerhood was never easy nor conventional, to say the least. And the victory just got even sweeter knowing that I had my friends and church to celebrate it with. If there is one thing the Lord has revealed to me through this miraculous moment, it would be that He’s more than willing and more than able to split seas in order for me to walk right through them. He has lead me to various seas of varying depth and not once did He leave me to drown. And for the uncertain and misty years ahead, I only have to trust Him more! To God be all the Glory!

Happy many years ahead of us

Through the years, some things just do not change. Like the way you tap your fingers while you sing a song; like how you play with your beard when you try to focus and think; and like how you always buy me that Hershey’s Chocolate bar every time you go to 711.

It’s amazing how you still manage to listen even to my overly repeated stories. And without fail, you always provide me with the warmth I need during rainy days. Perhaps, it could be scary at times knowing you know me too well. You know when I’m tired, irritable, and when I’m hungry. A man who could spell the difference between those seemingly similar sentiments is a keeper!

Life is indeed fun and exciting knowing you’ll always be my partner in everything. As you continue with your internship, just hang in there my love. After all, it only gets better and sweeter, my Hana.

Calligraphy by Dawn

Lettering: A little progress

Not too long ago, I wrote a post about lettering or calligraphy. I never really thought I could do something like this because in the first place, I am not the one who writes in cursive. The first picture below was the FIRST calligraphy item I ever made. I copied this from a pinterest photo I could no longer find. I realized that the key was to identify which side should be thickened. If you’re using a brush or calligraphy pen, this should be easy.

The photo below is one the most recent. I wanna try different styles in writing but what do I know? I cant even afford to get myself into one of those pricey workshops. I know, I can be stingy sometimes, but being jobless can sure make you one. (Laughter)

I can see a little progress over the months of writing. I have come to know how to use a brush pen and I’ve also tried watercolor paintings. Compared to other letterers, I am probably the least. But compared to my previous self, Hey! Not bad!

Since I usually share photos of my works on instagram and facebook, I would usually get requests from friends asking me if I can make them one. Right now, I don’t have any plans of selling. As far as I’m concerned, I enjoy the thrill of just making and sharing them on IG. I’ve also made some of my works as gifts. I’ve given my boyfriend’s dad a couple of my works and I find contentment in the sight of my work being proudly displayed in the walls of his home. I’ve also given one framed work to a Missionary Pastor Tomlinson who was doing a mission in China together with his wife. For me, being able to share the Gospel to some homes and some people, is more than enough. The fact that I’m not getting money out of this doesn’t necessarily mean I am wasting this GOD-GIVEN talent. By sharing some of my works on my social media accounts, I get my friends to read Bible passages. And to me, that’s more than enough.

In whatever craft you’re into, always aim to glorify the Lord.

Exciting Stories

What seemed to be a horrifying news became my ticket to a sweet experience!

My mom and i decided to take up Cokaliong Shipping Lines from Surigao City in going to Cebu last sunday eve, 4th of November. Since we did not book our tickets ahead of time and considering the passengers from the recent Undas, no more tickets were issued. Perhaps it’s a Filipino thing to ask for other remedies like taking the last resort of becoming chance passengers, as they were called. Even the tellers told us to wait until five in the afternoon and try our luck if the personnel that they call ‘purser’ will issue extra tickets for chance passengers.

Hoping for the best, we tried along with other passengers but 5:30pm came and no purser came. Even the tellers were harsh and did not even listened or even looked at us. Finally, when my mom and most of the passengers became irritated, we decided to confront and ask anyone who was inside the cell. A middle-aged man said in a strong voice that they can no longer issue any ticket. But prior to this confrontation, we noticed that several people came inside the office to ask for tickets from him. Probably, that was what we usually call in our local dialect as ‘palusot,’ also known as patronage system.

IF ONLY we were told and confirmed in a much earlier time, we could have thought of other means and alternative plans like taking another ship or ferry boats available also in the city, instead of wasting the whole afternoon waiting for nothing and clinging to that false hope.

But hey, it did not end bad. Actually the fun just started! So, there we were, confused and had no other way to go. Since we really needed to be in Cebu, we tried the road less traveled. 🙂

Because of that situation i had the chance of meeting several kinds of people. I met the pretty girl, the trusting fellow, the help, the clown, the story teller, and the concerned.

THE PRETTY LADY. She’s the one who has the looks and the great smile! She’s practically the charming. In the group, it was Paula who had the charm to ask every local and every ‘ka sakay’ of what direction should we be heading and of what ferry whould we be taking. Because of her looks, it was easy to attract muscles that will help us with our extra baggages. In a group of almost 15 people, you’ll never know when will someone like her come in handy. 🙂

THE TRUSTING FELLOW is actually the one who gives her number so you can call her in case of emergency and leaves her baggages behind with someone who is willing to stay. She is the one who is willing to give extra money and trusts you enough to return the excess.

THE HELP are those muscled men who are willing to help you carry those heavy bags. Probably, in the group, they are one of the most important people, hehe. It’s always good and comforting to know that even if you’re travelling alone and it seemed to you that you are new to the place, someone is willing to give a lift when needed.

THE CLOWN. Aha! They are the jolly makers, as I call them. From the long hours of jeepney rides and long wait in terminals, these people would never let even a single dull moment. Perhaps, they might become everybody’s favorite. They find everything funny and somehow manage to ease the stress from the tiresome journey. 🙂

THE STORY TELLER AND THE CONCERNED are practically similar to each other. In most cases they are the old and aged or perhaps just the most experienced in the group. It might be a possibility that many of you are travelling for the first time and with these kind of people, you’ll somehow feel a lil bit secured. They are, most likely, the decision makers and the planner of the group–always has a plan in case one will not work.

And so, I actually met these kinds of people and I’m thankful to the Lord for allowing me to see the good in all things. 🙂 Eventhough we suffered from a lot of mishaps, the instant adventure and the chance of seeing new places with new people made it worthwhile and worth keeping 🙂 Just consider all things as blessings and always look forward in finding the better purpose of the Lord out of everything!

How about you? Do you have any misadventures turned into sweet journeys? How did you see God working in and with your situation? Let me know and comment below. God bless! =)

A friend’s worth

To somebody who eats ice cream with me on a sunny day and sings the same old song with me on a rainy one, that person’s worth can be Php 20.00.

For the rich and seemingly self-sufficient, a 20-peso bill can mean nothing. If they will lose one, probably, it won’t hurt. The same is true when a wealthy man gains a 20-peso bill. He might not even bother to care.

But to the poor and needy, the amount can really mean something. Losing and gaining a 20-peso bill will surely be felt~imagine the hurt of losing money and the joy of gaining one. To a person who knows very well her limitations and capabilities, the amount like 20 pesos can probably be the most precious and valuable thing, for with it, one can taste (although temporarily) the joys of life.

With a good friend, the simplest things, when done together, can become one of life’s most extraordinary pleasures!

How Tos

How to do away with problems?

That’s the dilemma I am currently struggling with. How to do away with problems. Since problems are not so easy to avoid, here are some tips as to how to do away with ‘already-there’ problems:

1. Know what is exactly the problem.

It’s hard to find for a solution to an unknown dilemma. So, to avoid more hassle, clear your thoughts and spot the main problem.

2. Determine the reason/root cause.

This step will help you realize how to avoid encountering the same problem again. 🙂 I mean, there’s a whole lot of different mistakes in the world for you to repeat one. 😀

3. Clear your mind with worries.

This tip is very important. Remember how the Lord reminded us in the book of Matthew, that worries would not add a single day to our life? That is actually true! Aside from getting that down and hopeless feeling, you also acquire skin and heart problems!

4. Solution is achieved through prayer and meditating on the Word of God (BIBLE).

No other way of solving your problem but by reading and praying. Although trials are not from the Lord, they are permitted to test and increase your faith. And while chastisements are all from the Lord, they are not expressions that God doesn’t love you anymore! But they are for corrections and expressions of Fatherly love. 😀

5. Disappointments are of no good.

Sometimes, we think of our selves as useless and worthless every time we fail. This might be because some people make us feel how unsuccessful we are; how much of a disappointment we are; how tiring it is to be treading under the valley; and all. But you see, we are living for only ONE–that’s the Lord Jesus Christ! And our Christ is no way like them. He doesn’t love us basing on our performance. 🙂 He is no way like human whose love increases with performance. He’s the ONLY ONE who could love you still even when you seem to be the most unlovable! That’s something good!

6. When something is not right, you probably is looking at the left side. Go back to the right side!

This is just something about looking always on the brighter side. 🙂 Errors are to correct; failures are to build you more; sorrows are to make you feel God is our comfort; sadness allows us to see that God is our joy!; and unloving family and friends will always remind us of how imperfect humans are but how perfect God is. 😀

See? Remember, our God– is a God who is in control; the God who CONSTANTLY loves; the God who is constantly working!

7. Lastly, SMILE! 😀

This is the time for you to watch your favorite movie; dance for the Lord; or have a good time with friends! Have a good laugh! It’s works in two ways. It makes you feel better, and it shows others that Christians are victorious in trusting the Lord~no matter what!

Are you feeling sad and weary? God knows exactly how it feels like because Jesus has been there! SO, come to Him and find peace in Him. 🙂

Comment what’s on your mind! Let me know. :p God bless you! 😉
